The unique style and music of Bobby McManus is the product of a long winding musical journey.
Beginning on trips to the woods with a keen interest in a his grandfather's instruments; Bobby pursued drums and piano as a young boy. After training in classical and jazz upright bass, he finally made the jump to the guitar. Inspired by the physical styles of Eddie Van Halen and Victor Wooten; as well as progressive music like Rush and Dream Theater, he challenged the athletic and intellectual limits of his playing. After exposure to fingerstyle virtuoso Don Ross, acoustic folk music became his main expressive avenue.
Bobby attended the Arts Academy in the Woods and then began two careers. One in music performance and the other educating musicians of all ages and skill levels. After accepting the senior teaching position at Grosse Pointe Music Academy in 2005, Bobby participated in the nationally televised "Americas Hot Musician" competition in 2008 and was voted the winner. The resulting single with Canadian vocalist Sarah Loverock was later certified gold. The following years saw the maturing of his music to include thoughtful lyricism and a distinctive vocal delivery that further the expressive possibilities of his art. With the 2014 release of his first musical collection called "Aesthetics" Bobby McManus is poised to push farther the boundaries of both his own creativity and expression, as well as his mastery of the guitar.
When he's not teaching guitar or performing with The Pulse, Bobby has a flourishing solo career playing both covers and his own original music. Just earlier this Summer in 2015, Bobby was invited to be a featured artist at Michigan's prestigious "Electric Forest Festival."

When you think of Soul music you may picture an artist singing. However, can a rapper be considered Soulful in the same way Sam Cook or Donny Hathaway is considered Soulful? Danami is an multi-disciplinary artist striving to change people's lives. Fans have compared Danami's style to Hip-Hop artist Lupe Fiasco infused with Motown Soul.
His approach to making music is contributed to growing up in Detroit and his admiration of Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, and The O’Jays. These influences can be heard on Danami’s new release Before The Wait EP ( BTWEP ) produced by G Mo Beats and features instrumentation from Danami’s live band The Blue.
Songs like ‘Have You Seen Her’ and ‘Fork In The Road’ exemplify Danami’s strengths to craft personal and memorable music. The pairing of Hip-Hop techniques such as cadence and rhythm with emotion driven storytelling creates an engaging Soul/Hip-Hop experience.
In 2012, Danami performed at SXSW during a nine city high school tour with McNally Smith College of Music educating students on creating a life in music. He was named a recipient of the 2014 McKnight Fellowship for Performing Musicians; the first Hip-Hop artist to receive this award.
Also in 2014, Danami was transparent about his five month struggle experiencing starvation, electricity terminated for a month, and being four days away from eviction. He expressed his vulnerability on his blog and during performances that encouraged others based upon what he learned from those experiences. It's this vulnerability that is reflected in Danami's songwriting and performances.
A fan once tweeted Danami saying, “compensating you is a small token for the love that you make me feel in my heart.” If the ultimate goal for Danami is to change lives, what better way to do it than providing love through music and being a great human?
