The Detroit Social Club

The Detroit Social Club

Like many of our most noteworthy musical stars, The Detroit Social Club Band is born of the streets of the city of Detroit.  Motown has always been more than Motown and the DSC Band is a testament to that.  Inspired by the “chitlin’ circuit” era of the Motown (aka Motortown) and the Stax/Volt Revues of the 50’s and 60’s, the Detroit Social Club is an entire show featuring the finest R&B, Blues, Hip-Hop/Pop and Smooth Jazz you will find in the Detroit area.

Oct. 27

The Detroit Social Club regularly features “D-Force” w/Darnell Smith and Darnell Gardner, the “Double-D’s” of soul.  Individually, they have 30 to 40 years of experience fronting such local bands as “Ecstasy/the Top Choice Band”, the “$600 Grand Band” and “Latest”, local bands that enjoyed an intensely loyal relationship with their fans that enabled them to work continuously at clubs in the city.  Smooth as silk one minute…rough and tough in another…an energetic style that draws from the songs of the past to impact on the songs of the present.  R&B, Blues, Hip-Hop, Jazz or Gospel D-Force will “tear the roof off” of any “joint” they are performing at.

The Duane Williams Trio is a very unique group in that they can be a fantastic cover band (surprising for a three piece) and they have a fantastic set of originals that acknowledge a unique set of mentors, like Al Green, Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind & Fire, Curtis Mayfield and Michael Jackson.  Led by Mr. Williams on keyboards and vocals, this group (with guitar and drums) to borrow a phrase is “uptight and out of sight”!  You can tell by watching Duane he is extremely talented.  The constant smile on his face when he is onstage performing or offstage is very engaging and sincere.  This man loves music!

In the tradition of the Memphis Shoals/Funk Brothers musicians, the Duane Williams Trio also serves as a cornerstone of the musical component of the DSC Band.  Nathan Smith on drums and Michael Wills on the guitar provide a tight weave of music and beat that compliments all of the talent on the bill.  Adept at playing any style from the 60’s to the present, blues to jazz, they are authentic and beyond compare on the local music scene.

Which leads us to the founder/leader of the organization… “Little Brother Arthur David”!  When it comes to blues…Chicago-style blues, in the city of Detroit, vocally there is no comparison, and when you listen to him on slide guitar, evoking the images of Charlie Patton, Son House, Elmore James and Muddy Waters, it is easy to forget where you are…what you are doing…what day it is!  He lives the blues and the Blues lives through him!

Now when it comes to bass guitarists, Detroit is not at a loss for talented musicians.  There is no more talented a bass player than, “Pookie” Christopher.  “Pookie” plays it all…funk, blues, gospel, rock, jazz, standards, ETC., and he plays them all well. He is always in demand because he comes in and is ready to get down to business. Doing covers or doing originals, he is one of those guys that puts a personal stamp on what ever he is playing.  “Pookie” is our stage director and everything flows through him.  He totally locks in with Nathan and Michael and the three of them are clearly a musical force live or in the studio.

The DETROIT SOCIAL CLUB, the most rockin’ blues band…the most exciting R&B band…the smoothest jazz band…and the hottest hip-hop band in Detroit!
