Meg Brennan is a saxophonist and flutist from Detroit, Michigan. Her musical journey began at 10 years old when she began playing the flute. In 2010, she was accepted to the internationally renowned Interlochen Arts Academy where she studied flute with Nancy Stagnitta. After graduating from Interlochen in 2011, she decided to continue her education at Michigan State University where she earned a Bachelors in Flute Performance and Jazz Studies.
In college, she fell in love with jazz music and decided to pursue the alto saxophone. After hearing her play at a jam session, MSU jazz saxophone professor Diego Rivera took her under his wing and taught her the jazz language. During her time at MSU she studied not only with Diego Rivera but also with Rodney Whitaker, Michael Dease, Etienne Charles, Xavier Davis, Randy Napoleon, and Randy Gillespie. She also had the opportunity to play with world renowned artists like Jimmy Cobb, Christian McBride, Kenny Barron, Peter Bernstein, Jon Faddis, Antonio Hart, and Anat Cohen.
Meg now lives in Detroit where she teaches flute at the MSU Community Music School. She has played at multiple venues throughout the city including Cliff Bells, Bakers Keyboard Lounge, The Caucus Club, The Whitney, and the Detroit Princess to name a few.
